The 2019 general election has promised to be bleak for APC in Enugu State as over 800 party faithful have dumped the party to embrace the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of the State.
Agbani is the country home of the former governor of the state, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani who has returned to PDP after so.many years of foray into Democratic Peoples Congress, DPC.
This huge shock came shortly as the Enugu state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is
celebrating their harvest of members of Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP), defecting to the party across the state.
Receiving the defectors at the event which took place at Agbani Town
Hall, the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government, Hon Henry Okenwa
charged them to work with existing members to ensure that the party
converted all the members that have joined APC or any other party.
Okenwa said that PDP has a big umbrella that can cover everybody,
stressing that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has shown that umbrella of
PDP is too big for the privileged few as was witnessed in the past
which made some of you to defect to APC.
In his remark, the chairman of PDP, Agbani ward, Comrade Osita John
Nneji, thanked God for his mercies, stressing that there was no magic
rather than, “we went around to our people and preached to them on the
importance of being in PDP and they accepted. They might also have
seen the benefit of joining the PDP having tested the APC bitter leaf.
“From our record we have about 1,200 people who have registered and
all of them are from APC.”
Nneji said that they don’t have Peoples Democratic Change (PDC), the
party found by their brother and the former governor of Enugu state,
Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, stressing that the party has collapsed it
structure to PDP.
Some of the defectors said they were encouraged
by the widespread development projects Governor Ugwuanyi has initiated
in their local government especially the reconstruction of Agbani
road.
In an interview, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ogbeke Agbani
Autonomous Community, Comr. Sunday Edeagu who also returned to PDP,
explained that he left PDP because of annoyance but, now he has
realized that there is other party in Nigeria today that is better
than PDP.
Although, APC is controlling the centre but, from the look of things
APC is not performing, Comr. Edeagu said stressing, that “APC are just
making noise; there is no security, no employment as they promised.
They have failed Nigerians who believed that once they took over power
the country will start witness new bliss of life.”
Meanwhile, PDP has boasted that it will reclaim all elective positions
in the South-East in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
The national coordinator, Dr. Charles Omini of PDP Youth Alliance made
this comment on Saturday while inaugurating the group for the
South-East zone in Enugu.
Hon. Chinedu Nwamba, member representing Nsukka East Constituency in
the Enugu State House of Assembly was inaugurated as the South-East
coordinator of the PDP group.
Omini said right from 1999, the South-East had been a PDP zone, until
few mistakes were made which led to the taking over of two States by
other polities.
He, however, said with the abysmal performance of the President
Muhammadu Buhari’s government, it would be an easy ride for the PDP in
2019.
