SAD! UN Stops Aid Work After Rann Attack

This is a sad period for refugees in the northeastern part of Nigeria.

The condition of thousands of refugees in that part of the country may worsen following the United Nations' decision to halt its humanitarian aid work.   

This was UN’s response to the attack on a military facility in Rann, Borno State which left 11 people dead including 3 UN aid workers.

The attack on March 1 is suspected to have been carried out by Boko Haram militants.

The suspension of aid work in the town of Rann, which hosts a camp for 55,000 people displaced by the Islamist Boko Haram insurgency, was announced late on Friday in a statement from the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.

“At the time of the attack, over 40 humanitarian workers were in Rann. All humanitarian personnel have been evacuated from Rann, and all humanitarian deliveries in the area have been temporarily suspended,” said the UN statement.

This also comes just hours after medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres said it had suspended its work in Rann following the attack and evacuated both national and international staff.
